NAISC has ten standing committees on council, each with an officer, a cabinet head from each grade, a representative from each grade, and numerous committee members.

North Allegheny Intermediate High School Student Council

Principal's Advisory Committee - Ross Hacket (officer), Adriana Jensen, Lili Peng 

1. Recruit students to apply for your committee. They should be vocal and good at working with adults.

2. Arrange an interview date with principal, advisors, officers, and potential committee members. Decide on questions and conduct interview and notification process for new members.

3. Train committee in their job and procedures for meetings.

4. Set up a monthly schedule with principal at the beginning of the year to take place before business meetings of SC.

5. Set up the schedule of principal luncheons rotating through the lunch periods at the beginning of the year when meeting with principal.

6. Advertise to the student body by the end of October who the committee members are, what the job of the committee is and the process for handling questions, requests or problems.

7. Cabinet heads will plan an agenda before all PA meetings based on information from students, SC, school board, etc.

8. First meeting of the month will be to plan and create agenda for the following week’s meeting with the principal. Agenda must be approved by advisor and then given to the principal at last three days before the meeting.

9. Attend and participate at all PA meetings. A member of the committee is responsible for taking and typing up clear minutes of the meeting to be distributed to members, advisors, and the principal.

10. Report in oral and written form about details of PA meeting to SC and students. Decide how that process will look.

11. Do periodic evaluations of SC projects or survey the student body on various subjects and report results to committee or student body.

12. Organize principal luncheons including invitations, food, drink, location and program with a member of the committee acting as a host for each luncheon. Take notes and attendance at luncheons and report back to committee.

13. Decide if there is a “need” for a meeting with upper administration or school board to inform them of happenings in this building or to request information.

14. Help carry out yearly SC theme.

Remember the task of this committee is not to create specific projects. As other SC committees do. Your task is to represent the student body to the administration, SC and school board. The committee needs to respond to student concerns, questions and tissues in a timely manner.


Finance Committee - Maria Munsch (officer), Anna Winberg, Portia Isaac

1. Recruit and select a committee and train them in what has to be done and in procedures you will follow to do it.

2. Review the notebooks for past welcome committee projects and plan a calendar of events for the year for the calendar meeting in early October.

3. Organize and work on the magazine sale which occurs in September:

~~~all the publicity of posters and announcements
~~~prize dispersement from magazine headquarters in the Tiger Shop during all lunch periods
~~~daily tally boards in main hall
~~~poster of all SC members and the number of magazines they sell
~~~reminder notes to all SC members about sale and goal.

4. Devise and organize a min. of 3 mini-fundraisers to generate school spirit not for big bucks. Check with other committees to see if fundraiser can be tied into their events. (Tiger towels for football games, black and gold class shirts for school spirit, data match forms etc.) Be creative.

5. Promote the use of the juice, pop and Lance machines which are profit for SC. Find out which ones belong to SC.

6. Organize NAI Idol for school wide event.

7. Do the tallying of boxes for the Dance Marathon before and at the event.

8. Attend all SC functions and participate in them.

9. Attend all committee meetings in school and after school.

10. Assist in any capacity requested by officers or advisors.

Publicity Committee - Alex Mesoras (officer), Kevin Kelly, Stephanie Gohlsch, Apoorv Dhir
 
1. Review past notebooks about job, problems etc.

2. Instruct all SC committee about procedures to be followed to request posters, announcements, videos, etc. for an event.

3. Recruit committee members and train them in the procedures for this committee.

4. Brainstorm different ways to publicize the events in the school.

5. Use the black board to list the details and information needed for all posters and publicity before the group starts. Remember the SC theme for the year goes on all publicity and then our SC logo too.

6. Order any art supplies needed from budgeted amount and keep supplies current and neat.

7. Be creative, neat, have complete information and spell things correctly on all publicity.

8. Use the poster maker machine for computer generated posters or typed posters only. Be selective, because the paper is expensive.

9. Make sure posters are hung neatly and not just stuck up with ripped edges and tape on the front of the posters. Posters can only be hung on brick or wood; no glass or painted surface.

10. Clean up SAO after poster making.

11. Remove all posters after event is over.

12. Write scripts and tape video announcements for events if requested.

13. Work with publicity director to keep up change SC bulletin boards.

14. Print all digital pictures for SC use. Devise a system for this.

15. Sell tickets for all SC events. Set up a ticket selling schedule according to luck periods each semester. Make sure committee members know the procedures and notified of sales schedule.

16. Decorate the school for various holidays or events.

17. Be responsible for all aspects of door decorating contest for dance marathon.
18. Attend and support all SC events. Attend and participate in all SC meetings.

Dance Committee - Marielena Balouris, Bobbie Kolarik (officers), Leslie Barksdale, Zoe Kainaroi, Kelly Ammon

1. Get the dates and times for all dances for the current year.

2. Recruit a large committee and train them in what has to be done and how your committee functions. Delegate responsibilities.

3. Review the notebooks about past dances. The dance marathon and semiformal have their own notebooks, which will be given to you.

4. Complete the dance planning sheet and turn into your advisor at least one week in advance.

5. Get DJ phone numbers from advisor. They are already secured, but call and work out times, music selection and payment at least a week before a dance.

6. Secure all chaperones by sending out a letter at least 2-3 weeks in advance making your request and giving times. Follow up with personal contact and then a confirmation letter at least a week before the dance. Needed : 1 administrator, 6 parent and 6 teachers/staff.

7. Decide on theme and how it will be carried out with food, decorations, activities etc… Brainstorm ideas with committee and delegate responsibilities.

8. Notify publicity committee at least 3 weeks before event with date, times, cost, theme, special events, etc…

9. Plan decorations based on theme and budget. Check out decorations in the Tiger Shop also. Plan who will purchase what.

10. Plan and purchase food and serve attractively. Plan a refreshment stand schedule that will include 2 people every half hour from 8:30-10:30. Notify treasurer at least 2 weeks in advance of pop machine needs, so it can be ordered.

11. Post a set-up and clean-up sheet in SAO, so that you get plenty of volunteers to help. If you need food items brought in by SC members post that also. Must be completed at least one week in advance of dance.

12. Plan special events, games, or contests for the dance. Who is in charge? What are the rules? What are the prizes? Who will purchase?

13. Assign 3 people to work the door, signing people in, taking money, and numbering hands.

14. Write announcements for the dance the week before.

15. Set up for the dance at the assigned time. Make sure you have tasks broken down so you can assign people to do various things.

16. Set up refreshment area, but don’t open till 8:30. Post refreshment schedule.

17. Check in with advisors during the dance to make sure things are going ok.

18. Organize clean up of dance, immediately following. Assign members areas to clean. Pay the DJ. Check with advisors before heading home.

19. At next meeting evaluate dance and fill out evaluation form with committee to be turned into president organize notebook with any forms or details you used in planning the dance. Keep a copy of the dance planning form in notebook.

20. Attend all dance committee meetings and other Student Council events.

21. For Homecoming:
SC plans: all publicity, sells tickets, organizes the food, sets up tent aea with decorations for food, orders favors, gets 10 parent chaperones, recruits 20 people to set up Saturday morning and 20 people to clean up on Sunday morning

Class Council Plans: selects theme, plans and makes all decorations for new gym, hallway, entrance-way, recruits 10 teacher chaperones, recruits 20 people to set up Saturday morning and 20 people to clean up on Sunday morning.

22. For Dance Marathon:
Get marathon notebook for all planning aspects of marathon. Must start planning at least 6 weeks in advance.

23. For Semi-Formal:
Planning starts with meeting with advisor in March to review the various committees needed and the notebooks for the committees. Committee selects 3 ideas for themes and works out decoration ideas and presents to SC final vote on theme.

Welcome Committee - Anna Williams (officer), Abbey Chandler, Hailey Mansco
 
1. Before school ends recruit freshmen to be Big Brothers/Sisters for September. Set up program for new students to the district/area. Train Big Brothers/Sisters in their role.

2. Organize a “get-together” for New Student Orientation Night for Big Brothers/Sisters and new students. Include invitations, food, icebreakers, program, gifts, new student guide etc…

3. Using Big Brothers/ Sisters, organize classroom guides for the New Student Orientation Night.

4. Create a new student welcome packet for new students, along with a system of getting it to them their first day here along with the name of a Big Brother/Sister who will contact them that day.

5. Organize a new student breakfast/luncheon in mid-October to welcome all students who have moved into the district and check on how they are doing. Plan a complete program with invitations, food, program etc…

6. Organize written schedules of all committee members and give to counseling secretary for new students to have people to serve as guides their first day NAI before their schedule is made up.

7. Keep a file of all new students and their assigned big brothers/sisters. Check in with counseling office periodically to see if any new student are having problems.

8. Check in with attendance secretary to be notified of student accidents, extended illnesses, or deaths in family. Send appropriate gifts or cards.

9. Create birthday board and have it posted by the first of the month in the main hallway for all to see. Make sure it is accurate and replace any written comments.

10. Make out monthly birthday cards and create a system for distribution on a daily basis of card/gift? Must be delivered on birthday.

11. Create and devise a website for SC. It should contain a monthly calendar project information, any forms or permission slips needed and information about each committee. Information needs to be updated on a regular basis.

12. Organize and purchase any supplies needed for computer and its upkeep.

13. Attend all SC events and all SC meetings.

Staff Appreciation Committee - Adair Creach (officer), Renee Ware, Meredith Michalojko

1. Recruit committee members and select a committee and train them how to do their job.

2. Review past notebooks for ideas on projects. Don’t be afraid to try something new.

3. Brainstorm ideas for monthly events and put on calendar oh events for the year. Select specific dates for projects by the end of September.

4. Organize and sponsor the flowing events:
Early September: staff breakfast to introduce the officers to the staff
January: Staff birthday party
End of April/early May: Staff spring luncheon

5. Try new ideas to increase interaction among staff and students (athletic events, contests, games, etc.)

6. Do some type of recognition program for the staff and their accomplishments.

7. Create a staff birthday board for the faculty room and any other ideas you have to recognize staff.

8. Welcome new staff to the building in early September.

9. Plan something for the night of Open House for the teachers.

10. Complete all project evaluations.

11. Attend all SC events, meetings before &after school.

12. Assist in any capacity requested by officers.

School Spirit Committee - Makiala Yates (officer), Sarah Labarre, Lindsay Hatcher

1. Recruit and select a committee and train them in what to do and how to do it.

2. Review the notebooks on past school spirit projects and tiger promotion events. Also review Spirit Works by Bob Burton.

3. Brainstorm ideas and plan a calendar for each month of the year. Stick to it! Get dates approved for assemblies by the end of September.

4. For each season of sports, review the dates, times, and locations of games. Decide what games your committee will attend. Sit together and cheer. You may want to speak with team members to see which games they would like to have more support and cheering.

5. For every game you plan on attending as a committee, write an announcement and invite others to come and join you. Each member should bring 1-2 friends to each game.

6. Decide whether or not you need to order school spirit shirts, noisemakers, etc… to help identify your committee while attending games: These may serve as incentives to attack others to come. They will also be used for spirit busses.

7. Secure a location to post game schedules for the whole school to see. Add pictures of teams & players. Game schedules and rosters can be obtained by contacting the Athletic Director’s office, not our school secretaries.

8. Decorate the school around various spirit times, (spirit days, playoffs, tournaments etc…) Make signs and banners to hang up & bring with you to games. Please check with publicity committee for supplies and procedures.

9. Decorate lockers for various sports teams and activities. Excluding sports, there are 42 organizations at NAI. Consider recognizing them during competitions and events. Locker information can be obtained from your advisor.

10. Organize monthly school spirit days and a spirit week that have various types of activities that can take place during homeroom or lunch. A SC digital camera is available to capture these spirited moments 

11. Organize pep rallies to recognize seasonal sports. Involve teachers and students in the games and events. Designate someone to wear the Tiger Mascot costume at these events; include a routine if possible.

12. Organize spirit business to away games. Check your notebook for the to do list. It takes at least two weeks to organize this event which includes reserving buses and requesting game tickets for the game.

13. Evaluate all projects in written form.

14. Attend all committee meetings and other SC sponsored activities.

15. Assist in any capacity requested by the officers.

Service Committee - Brittany Hogg (officer), Kate Mahler, Alexandra Sansosti
 
1. Recruit and train a committee in what has to be done and how to do it.

2. Brainstorm ideas for monthly activities for the year and post on the yearly calendar of events. Specific dates must be selected by the end of September.

3. Review the notebooks for details of past Service committee events and consult other sources for ideas.

4. Organize monthly service projects:

        a. September/October- plan for November’s Gobble for Cans and the Canned Food Drive

        b. November- put into service Gobble for Cans and the Canned Food Drive

        c. December- plan and put into action Santa Stocking Project

        d. January/March- brainstorm ides for small projects to keep committee active. Plan for spring service project.

        e. April- Battle of the Bands

5. Work to help publicize these events in school and the community

6. Complete all project evaluations

7. Attend all SC events, and meetings before and after school

8. Assist in any capacity requested by officers
